Ex-VP Binay calls on former senior gov't officials to help typhoon victims

Saying public officials' responsibility to the public does not end after their term, former vice president Jejomar Binay on Monday (Nov 16), called on former senior government officials to come together and help the victims of Typhoons “Rolly” and “Ulysses”.

“Helping our people doesn’t stop when we leave government. Ang paglilingkod at pagdamay sa ating kapwa ay dapat magpatuloy kahit wala na tayo sa gobyerno, lalo na kapag may kalamidad (Service and empathy for our fellow Filipinos should continue even if we are no longer in  government, especially during calamities)," Binay said in a statement.

The former vice president is extending assistance to the provincial governments of Cagayan and Isabela, which has been inundated by floods in the wake of Typhoon Ulysses. 

“Bilang tulong sa mga kababayan ko sa Isabela, magbibigay ako ng paunang donasyon sa provincial government para sa kanilang isinasagawang relief at rescue operations(To help my provincemates in Isabela, I will give initial donation to the provincial government for their relief and rescue operations),” he said.

Binay said his appeal covers former presidents, vice presidents, senators and Cabinet members.

He earlier urged the national government to quickly augment the calamity funds of local governments in the areas ravaged by Super Typhoon Rolly and Typhoon Ulysses.

The two recent typhoons caused billions in damage to infrastructure, agriculture and livelihood.
