Zamora eyes to build pumping station to address flooding in low-lying areas

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora is seeking to build a pumping station that would prevent flooding in low-lying areas near the San Juan River.

Typhoon “Ulysses” submerged parts of San Juan forcing residents to flee their homes and take shelter at evacuation centers prepared by the local government.

Zamora said areas along the stretch of F. Manalo Street, particularly parts of Barangays Batis and San Perfecto, experienced flooding during the recent typhoon.

The local government is now coordinating with the Department of Public Works and Highways for the construction of a pumping station in the flood-prone area.

“Once we build this as soon as possible, we will not experience flooding anymore in these areas,” the mayor said in a radio interview.

Zamora said other barangays in the city already have pumping stations and did not experience flooding despite the recent typhoons.

“This stretch of F. Manalo will be the last area that needs to be equipped with a pumping station,” he said.

“Once that is done, I am optimistic and confident that San Juan will not experience flooding anymore in the low-lying areas,” he added.
