Troy Rosario extends help to typhoon-hit Cagayan

TNT star Troy Rosario has launched a donation drive to help victims ravaged by the massive flooding that hit his home province of Cagayan Valley.

Rosario has collected more than P43,000 since Saturday that will be used for relief operations while also asking for donations of essential items, namely canned goods, water, rice, toiletries, towels and blankets.

“Cagayan Valley is very dear to my heart. It is where I grew up. I hope you can help my fellow Cagayanos get back on their feet by donating. Big or small, every effort counts,” Rosario said on his Instagram account.

The Tropang Giga big man, currently inside the PBA bubble in Smart Clark Giga City, is also being helped by his wife Mich and sisters CJ Rosario, who last played for Chery Tigo in the Philippine Superliga, and Eunice.

Cagayan suffered what was described as the worst flooding in recent memory due to the heavy rainfall brought about by Typhoon "Ulysses."

The 28-year-old grew up in Cagayan where he overcame poverty to earn opportunities to play basketball in Manila, first with Technological Institute of the Philippines followed by a stint with the national youth team and National University.

Rosario was drafted by TNT in 2015 and has since become one of the PBA’s best big men and a regular member of Gilas Pilipinas.

Rosario and his family are no stranger to giving back, having distributed 100 bags of goods to families in Quezon City during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
