DA readies P2-B rice, seeds and fertilizer for farmers in Region 2
Over P2 billion worth of rice, seeds, and fertilizer assistance will be given by the government to Region II or Cagayan Valley following the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses and recent storms, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said Sunday.

In situation briefing in Cagayan, Dar said the Department of Agriculture intends to provide agricultural inputs to help farmers recover from the damage left by the typhoons in the past few months.
He informed President Duterte that Cagayan will receive P846 million worth of agricultural support while Isabela will get P986 million worth of aid. Around P148 million worth of agriculture support will be given to Nueva Vizcaya and another P96 million for Quirino.
The DA assistance include hybrid rice seeds, fertilizers, hybrid corn seeds, assorted vegetable seeds, poultry, goats, and ducks, according to Dar.
In addition, Dar said they will provide around P41 million worth of rice donations to Cagayan and Isabela.
Of the donations approved by the National Food Authority (NFA), 14,500 bags of rice equivalent to P18 million will go to Cagayan while 18,5000 bags or worth P23 million will be given to Isabela.
"The summary would be, Mr. President, we are giving out today all these agriculture inputs plus the rice as our ayuda to Region II is P2.2 billion, Mr President," Dar said.
In Cagayan Valley, he said the damage caused by typhoons Pepito, Rolly, Quinta and Ulysses has reached P2 billion. He said the agricultural support will be in preparation for dry season planting.
The President commended the agriculture chief for his relief assistance to the typhoon victims. "I'm overwhelmed, I'm happy," he told Dar.
Cagayan has recently been placed under a state of calamity following the massive floods which local officials reported as the worst in its history in 45 years.  The typhoon has left 24 people dead and a huge trail of damage to agriculture and infrastructure in the province.
