Cagayan Valley death toll rises to 23 – PNP Region 2

CAGAYAN – The Police Regional Office-2 (PRO-2) reported on Sunday, November 15, four more fatalities – three by electrocution, and one by drowning – in the region, bringing to 23 the number of persons who were killed due to tragic events trigged by typhoon Ulysses.

According to PRO-2 Information Officer Lt. Col. Andree Abella, a report they received on Saturday showed that Henry Kelly Villarao of Gonzaga, Cagayan, Zocorro Nacay of Tuguegarao City, and Randy Valdez and Nery Abalos of Alcala, Cagayan, perished in separate incidents.

Villarao, Valdez and Abalos reportedly died from electrocution, while Nacay drowned.

These fatalities added to the death toll of 19 persons that was reported by PRO-3 on Saturday.

Four were members of a family, who were victims of a landslide in Bitag, Grande Baggao, Cagayan. They were Jay Pagulayan, 19; King Jim Bragasin, 18 ; Ian Philip Pagulayan, 17; and their grandmother Virginia Bautista, 60

Marlon Badjet, 43, was reported to have drowned in Baculod, Alcala, Cagayan.

In Isabela, three were listed to have drowned. They were Michael Angelo Atabug in Barangay Dicamay 1, municipality of Jones; and Jomar Balbin, Angangan, and Venancio Manuel of Benito Soliven.

The deadliest incident in the region was in in Nueva Vizcaya where 10 persons, including four minors, perished in a landslide that occurred in Barangay Ruruno, Quezon town.

The victims were Jaile Ann Taniza, 15; Francisco Napadaoan, 54; Cresencia Nahoy, 27; Ben Uyami Jr, 31 ; Dexter Nah Oy , two months old; Mark Binway, 15; Jomar Comilang, 33; Noel Bucayo, 39; Joel Buyucan, 26; and Omar Bola, 17.

And in Quirino province, three-year-old Jake Punay of Maddela town reportedly drowned.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to search for three missing persons in the region.

Those reported missing were Rodolfo Pagaduan, 72, and a resident of Barangay Pina Weste, Gattaran, Cagayan; Angelito Adorable, 47, resident of Barangay Ballacong, Ilagan City; and Arnold Natividad, resident of Barangay Balleleng, Sto Tomas, Isabela. All were feared to have been victims of drowning.

Listed among the injured were Jenna Mae Arellano, a Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) law enforcer Ballesteros, Cagayan; Jayson Yadan, 35, rescue worker from Alimannao, Penablanca, Cagayan; and Maria Catrina, 21, a gasoline station supervisor from Tuguegarao City.
