Southeast Asian Games Dota 2 champion Adroit Esports shut down its operations due to the continuing effect of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Cebu-based esports team broke the sad news through a lengthy Facebook post on Saturday.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share to the community that we have released our Dota 2 roster and all of our support staff as we cease all operations for Adroit Esports," the team said.
"Sacrifices were made by everyone on the team to stay afloat but the pandemic situation has led us to the inevitable," it added.
Then composed of Marvin "Boombacs" Rushton, Bryle "cml" Alvizo, Mc Nicholson "Mac" Villanueva, Jun "Bok" Kanehara and John Anthony "Natsumi-" Vargas, Adroit burst into the competitive scene when it almost qualified for the The International 2019 after finishing third in the SEA qualifiers.
Adroit went on to qualify for the MDL Chengdu Major, the first Major event of the 2019-2020 DPC season, where they wound up at 13th-16th.
Under the national esports team Sibol, Adroit snared the gold medal in the SEA Games after pulling off a nerve-racking 3-2 triumph over a Thailand side that was led by regional stars Anucha "Jabz" Jirawong and Nuengnara "23savage" Teeramahanon.
However, the team struggled in most subsequent tournaments before Natsumi- and Bok left the team for Zerothreetwo Dota.
Adroit tapped Justine Ryan "Tino" Grimaldo and Nikko "Nikko" Bilocura as replacements but the squad still found it hard to find its groove.
Last August, Adroit was also forced by the health crisis to release its Valorant team, which racked up numerous local and regional titles. Bren Esports picked up the lineup.
"We started Adroit small but with big goals for the future. A few championships but with honor, we raised the banner of SEA, PH and Cebuano Dota. We once entered the competitive Valorant scene and it was filled with numerous championships. All things, big or small, come to an end."
