The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) urged owners to unchain or uncage pets to give the animals "a fighting chance" during disasters.

"Give animals a fighting chance during disasters," PAWS wrote on Facebook.
"Unchain your dogs and unlock their cages if you cannot evacuate with them during times of emergencies or disaster," it added.
The plea comes after the animal welfare group found several dogs that drowned still chained or locked inside a cage in Provident Village, Marikina City.
PAWS also called for donations for dog food, cat food, ready-to-eat food for pet owners in easy-open cans, and hygiene packs, such as soap, alcohol, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
Donations can be sent to the PAWS Animal Rehabilitation Center at Aurora Blvd. Katipunan Valley, Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
Typhoon "Ulysses," forced tens of thousands of residents across the country to evacuate amid massive flooding.
The death toll from the typhoon has increased to 32, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Saturday.
