‘Ulysses’ leaves 9 injured, thousands displaced in Central Luzon


CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Nine people were injured after they were hit by fallen trees and other debris during a storm surge, while almost 60, 000 families were displaced by the flooding spawned by typhoon Ulysses, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD3) said Friday.

According to the OCD3 report, four of the injured individuals were from the province of Aurora, five were from Nueva Ecija, and two were from Zambales.

As of Friday, a total of 59,505 families, or 271,660 persons, from 89 barangays from the provinces of Aurora (33), Bataan (17), Bulacan (74), Nueva Ecija (32), Pampanga (18), Tarlac (90), and Zambales (2) were affected by “Ulysses” before it left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday.

OCD said flooding was reported in 184 barangays in the provinces of Pampanga (86), Bulacan (81), and Aurora (17)

Forty-seven roads and eight bridges in six provinces were also not passable to any type of vehicle or to light or heavy vehicles after they have been damaged by the storm. The affected provinces were Bulacan (18 roads, four bridges); Pampanga (13); Bataan (three roads); Nueva Ecija (six roads, four bridges); Aurora (six); Tarlac (one).

Power has yet to be restored in 20 villages in the provinces of Pampanga; 18 in Tarlac; 17 in Bulacan; eight in Zambales, six in Bataan, and two in Aurora province, according to OCD.


“Ulysses” likewise destroyed 168 houses, 20 of which were totally damaged. Partially damaged houses were reported in Bulacan (59), Nueva Ecija (71), and Pampanga (38).

Pre-emptive evacuation of families in coastal and low-lying areas was conducted early to mitigate the onslaught of the typhoon. A report from the Department of Social Welfare (DSWD3) showed that a total of 5, 312 families (17, 511 persons) from the cities/municipalities of Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales were safely accommodated in various evacuation centers.  

Authorities assured that the evacuees were frequently monitored to ensure that health protocol was being followed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC3) said that hygiene kits, assorted drugs, and medicines have been distributed in all seven provinces in the region to minimize the spread of communicable diseases.
