Vice President Leni Robredo on Friday noted some “fake news”  as she was providing assistance to victims of typhoon “Ulysses.”

Robredo on Twitter urged netizens to report a post made by a Twitter user with the handle @talkiooo showing an old photo of her wading through knee-deep water along with some aides. “FAKE NEWS. Saw this on twitter. Please help report,” she said.

The user criticized Robredo: “’Yung mga bantay mo sana tumulong na lang sa rescue. Kakahiya naman sa ‘yo (Your guards should have just helped in the rescue. Shame on you).”

Robredo tagged this post as fake news because the photo was taken in 2018 contrary to the claim of the Twitter user. “This picture was taken two years ago when I visited Agutaya, morthern Palawan,” she said, referring to her visit to the island to turn over solar units for communities without electricity.

“Naglakad po kami from the boat to the shore kasi hindi na kayang makalapit nung sinakyan namin. Hindi po ito ngayong bagyo (We had to walk from the boat to the shore because our vessel couldn’t go near it. This was not taken during the recent typhoon),” Robredo explained.

In a Facebook post, Robredo denied bringing media men during her visit to evacuation centers to bring relief goods to victims of Ulysses.

“Grabe traffic papunta sa evacuation sites. Kaya nanananghalian na kami sa sasakyan (The traffic going to the evacuation sites is bad, we had to eat lunch inside the car),” Robredo said.

Robredo said that contrary to the claims of trolls or her critics, no media was present during their visit to evacuation sites. “Sabi ng trolls, lagi daw kami may kasamang media. Hindi po totoo (Trolls say we always bring media with us, this is not true),” she said.

Robredo went to Nangka Elementary School in Marikina City Friday to check on  evacuees along with a team from the Office of the Vice President. “Ang totoo, kami lang anim ‘yung magkakasama sa ikot (Truth is there are only six of us who go around during the visits),” she said.

She and her team also went to affected communities in Marikina and Rizal Thursday.  “Kagabi, lima lang kami (Last night, there were only five of us),” she shared.

Robredo said that she and her staff are documenting their activities by taking photos and videos, among others. Her visits are also streamed via Facebook Live.

She thanked her staff for making it possible for her to do her job. “Nagagawa ko trabaho ko ng maayos, dahil sa kanila (I can do my job well because of them),” she added.
