A 33-year-old resident of Provident Village in Marikina City died after a concrete wall collapsed and fell on him Friday (Nov. 13).
Marikina Police chief Col. Restituto Arcangel identified the fatality as Danny Taasine.
The riverside village was submerged in flood waters during the typhoon that left many residents stranded either on the second floor of their homes or on top of their roofs.
Initial investigation showed that Taasine went at the back of his house at about 2 a.m. Friday when a concrete wall accidentally fell on him.
Police said a huge portion of the wall pinned down the victim in murky flood waters.
A witness reportedly tried to help Taasine but failed because of the strong water current and the high level of flood waters.
A team from the Bureau of Fire Protection arrived and retrieved the body after the witness sought assistance from the barangay.
