'Ulysses' devastates Luzon, leaves 23 dead, 16 missing


At least 23 people died while 16 others were reported missing as typhoon ‘Ulysses’ triggered massive flooding in Metro Manila and various parts of Luzon on Thursday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported.

A report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon from Cagayan Valley regional police stated that there were seven people who died as a result of the calamity, two of them were identified as Julie Ann Tanisa and Angelo Atabug.
 
The report added that 11 people were also reported missing.
 
In Metro Manila, two people from Valenzuela City and Taguig City were reported as fatalities during the onslaught of typhoon ‘Ulysses’.
 
As of 9 p.m. on Thursday, the Police Regional Office 4-A also confirmed the death of seven people in the region— three  from Dasmariñas, Cavite, one in Mabitac, Laguna; and three others in the towns of Cainta, Rodriguez and Tanay in Rizal.
 
Two people were reported dead in Camarines Norte—identified as 68-year old Avelino Cabaeta who was found dead on the roof of his house in Daet town, and Salva Mangubat from Talisay whose death is still being verified if typhoon-related.
 
Three more people were reported dead due to the weather disturbance in Bicol, one in Labo, Camarines Norte who drowned due to flash flood; a four-year old kid who was buried in a landslide also in Labo town and another one in Goa town of Camarines Sur due to drowning.
 
In Zambales, at least one person died in Palauig town when a mango tree fell on him.
 
In Atok town of Benguet, a 60-year old man identified as Felix Boguite was cooking in the kitchen when uprooted bamboos fell on their house on Thursday morning.
 
Four other people were reported missing in Camarines Norte while another one from Malvar town of Batangas.
