'Ulysses' batters NCR, C. Luzon; slightly weakens before exiting landmass

Typhoon "Ulysses" has weakened Thursday morning and is about to leave the landmass of Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

In its 8:00 a.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said “Ulysses” was located in the vicinity of Cabangan, Zambales.

It is moving west northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (km/h with maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 215 km/h.

PAGASA said “Ulysses” is also expected to slightly intensify as it moves over the West Philippine Sea away from the landmass.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals (TCWS) remain hoisted in the following areas:

TCWS No. 3:
The northern portion of Cavite (Naic, Tanza, Ternate, Maragondon, Rosario, Noveleta, Cavite City, Kawit, Bacoor, Imus, General Trias, Trece Martires City, Dasmariñas), Metro Manila, the western portion of Bulacan (San Miguel, San Ildefonso, San Rafael, Angat, Santa Maria, Marilao, Meycauayan City, Obando, Bulacan, Bocaue, Pandi, Bustos, Baliuag, Plaridel, Balagtas, Guiguinto, Malolos City, Paombong, Hagonoy, Calumpit, Pulilan), the western portion of Nueva Ecija (Gapan City, Peñaranda, Santa Rosa, Cabanatuan City, General Mamerto Natividad, Llanera, San Jose City, Lupao, Cabiao, San Isidro, San Leonardo, Jaen, San Antonio, Zaragoza, Aliaga, Talavera, Licab, Quezon, Santo Domingo, Guimba, Muñoz City, Talugtug, Cuyapo, Nampicuan), Pampanga, Tarlac, Bataan, Zambales, and Pangasinan

TCWS No.1:
The rest of Isabela, Kalinga, Abra, the rest of Ilocos Sur, the rest of Occidental Mindoro, the rest of Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, the northern portion of Romblon (Corcuera, Banton, Concepcion), the rest of Quezon, Camarines Norte, and the western portion of Camarines Sur (Siruma, Tinambac, Calabanga, Bombon, Magarao, Canaman, Camaligan, Gainza, Pamplona, Pasacao, Libmanan, Cabusao, Sipocot, Lupi, Ragay, Del Gallego)

Pagasa said areas under TCWS No.3 will experience destructive typhoon-force winds while damaging gale- to storm-force wind will prevail in areas under TCWS No. 2.

Areas under TCWS No. 1 meanwhile will experience strong breeze to near gale conditions.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon will likewise experience heavy to intense with at times torrential rains until Thursday afternoon, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will prevail over the Cordillera Administrative Region, mainland Cagayan Valley, Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Marinduque, and the northern portion of Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island.

Pagasa also warned of a possible storm surge over the coastal areas of Aurora, northern Quezon including Polillo Islands, Cavite, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, and Zambales, and up to 2.0 m over the coastal areas of Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Batangas, the rest of Quezon, Marinduque, and the northern portion of Mindoro Provinces including Lubang Island.

Typhoon "Ulysses" is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Friday morning or afternoon.
