Typhoon displaces 27,000 in Metro

The number of Metro Manila residents displaced by massive flooding spawned by typhoon "Ulysses" has ballooned to more than 27,000 as authorities continue to rescue people who were trapped and whose houses were damaged.

Police Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), said the displaced residents are now staying in 658 evacuation centers mostly in Quezon City, Manila, Marikina City, and Pasig City.

Danao said rescue operations are still ongoing in areas that are still flooded, adding that the operations will continue despite continuous downpour.

The Metro Manila top cop said 41 rubber boats and 280 vehicles were deployed in various parts of Metro Manila, especially in areas severely affected by flooding.

More than 1,000 Metro Manila policemen were deployed to assist in rescue and relief operations.
