More than 300,000 people are currently staying in various evacuation centers in Luzon and Eastern Visayas due to the onslaught of three strong weather disturbances in just a span of a few weeks.
This developed as the Philippine National Police also reported one fatality in the Bicol region and five others injured due to typhoon ‘Ulysses’.
The number of evacuees is also expected to swell as more people from Rizal, Bulacan, Laguna and some parts of Marikina were damaged by massive flooding starting on Wednesday night.
Most of the evacuees are from Bicol region. They are staying in 2,800 evacuation centers mostly in Catanduanes, Albay and Camarines as a result of the devastation wrought by typhoon ‘Rolly’, a report from the PNP disclosed on Thursday.
Of the 310,765 people in evacuation centers, a total of 202,136 of them are from Bicol Region; a total of 60,550 from Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon; 14,153 in Central Luzon; and, 14,102 in Mindoro provinces and Marinduque.
The rest are from various parts of Luzon that include Metro Manila with 6,005 evacuees.
The PNP also reported almost 4,000 people stranded in various seaports in Bicol, Eastern Visayas and Southern Tagalog region. (Aaron Recuenco)
