BTS’ Jimin says Suga had shoulder surgery to prevent his condition from worsening

K-pop idol group BTS member Jimin had a livestream on YouTube on Nov. 11 wherein he told fans why Suga made the decision to elect surgery for his torn shoulder tissue

During the livestream, Jimin also updated fans on what he has been doing and about their upcoming album “BE,” which will drop on Nov. 20.

“Yes, Yoongi (Suga). I know. Lots of you must be concerned about him. Yoongi is recovering well so I hope you’re not worrying too much. He’s sending us selfies, letting us know how he’s doing today and we’re all keeping in touch. Suga is recovering really well. It went very well. The procedure,” Jimin revealed.

He added, “He’s saying that he misses all of you. I hope you can wish for his speedy recovery with me, too. That was a sudden Suga turn. It’s because I can see lots of people wondering about Suga and being concerned.”

Jimin explained that Suga opted to have the surgery on his shoulder to prevent his health condition from worsening.

“Suga, too, wanted to do something before things got bad because he wanted to be with you for a very long time. That’s why he made the decision to have the procedure now, early. If you wait just a little, you’ll see him back and healthy in no time.,” he said.

Big Hit Entertainment announced on Nov. 6 that “Suga underwent surgery to repair his torn shoulder labrum on November 3. The surgery, to address a problem that had constantly been a health and wellness issue for Suga, was completed successfully and he is currently resting and recovering following his physician's advice that Suga must undergo a strict and unhindered period of recovery.”

It said Suga’s shoulder condition “began when he was injured in an accident that occured in 2012 before his debut, and he was diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder in 2013. Shoulder pains continued until he was further diagnosed in 2019 with ‘posterior labral tear of his left shoulder,’ which means that the cartilage around his left shoulder joint has been torn. Since then, he has continued to receive various treatment to prevent his injury from affecting his activities.”

After the surgery area has healed, Big Hit said, “Suga will begin physical therapy so that he can ultimately return to the stage healthy and fully recovered. It may be difficult for Suga to meet his long-awaited fans for some time, including for the upcoming BTS ‘BE’ album promotional activities.”

Jimin assured fans that “we’re watching our health. Recently, I’ve been trying to get myself in good shape but there’s a little bit of something that I think has been putting a strain on me so I’m taking it easy these days.”

“I think I can say I’m trying to work on the foundations. Me and all the members are trying hard to keep in good health,” he added.
