7,686 families evacuated in Quezon


QUEZON – Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) chaired by Governor Danilo Suarez reported that there were about 7,686 families evacuated as the pre-emptive evacuation issued came from various areas vulnerable to the adverse effect posed by Typhoon Ulysses on November 11.
 
Based on the initial reports, evacuees came from the towns of Lopez, Tagkawayan, Calauag, San Andres, San Narciso, Gen. Luna, Burdeus, Macalelon, and Polillo Island. 
 
According to Polillo town mayor Cristina Busque, her town is prone to storm surge, making her to order forced evacuation of the residents living at the coastal villages apart from suspending sea travel of marine vessels.
 
Suarez, on the other hand, issued a memorandum order suspending office work of government offices, on November 11 until November 12 in order for the employees to ensure the safety of their families and properties.
 
Online classes both private and public schools in all levels were suspended.
 
Suarez also ordered the PDRRMC the prepositioned the relief goods and the deployment of rescue teams and vehicles.
 
Suarez placed the province under “red alert status” on November 10, based on his memorandum order no. 138.
 
There were also reports that rice fields were flooded in some barangays, particularly in Payapa and Aliji, in Tagkawayan
 
In Lopez town, floodwater is rising up to the knee level while the rice field in San Roque was inundated.
 
Gumaca town, Mayor Webster Letargo, personally monitors and supervises the residents near the seawall to evacuate because of strong waves, and the water overflows reaching up to the road from Lamon Bay.
