The Muntinlupa City government evacuated over 1,000 families to safer grounds as typhoon “Ulysses” battered Metro Manila on Wednesday.

According to the Muntinlupa Social Services Department, as of 11 a.m. on Thursday, there were 1,018 families or 4,266 individuals who were evacuated.
They are staying in different evacuation centers including schools and covered courts in Bgys. Tunasan, Poblacion, Putatan, Bayanan, Alabang, Cupang, Buli and Sucat. Among them are senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities.
Mayor Jaime Fresnedi visited the MCDDRM Emergency Operations Center on Wednesday to monitor the situation in different barangays. He also oversaw on Thursday the preparation of relief goods and other supplies to be given to affected families at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex.
The MCDDRM implemented preemptive and forced evacuation of people living in coastal and flood-prone areas. Electricity went out in certain areas in Muntinlupa at midnight and resumed at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Barangays mobilized their personnel and resources to bring affected families to evacuation centers.
The Muntinlupa City government has identified 28 floor-prone areas in eight barangays including those located along the Laguna Lake.
According to a report by the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB), the river at the boundary of Muntinlupa and San Pedro, Laguna overflowed due to heavy rains. A portion of the national highway at the boundary was also flooded because of the overflow.
