The heavy rain brought by Typhoon Ulysses Wednesday night prompted the local government of Quezon City to evacuate nearly 10,000 residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas on Thursday.

As of 7 a.m., the city's Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (QCDRRMC) reported that about 2,381 families from 25 barangays were already brought to evacuation centers for their safety.
More residents were evacuated in other parts of the city as rescue operations progressed.
As the continuous downpour that came with strong winds left many areas in the city flooded, the local government deployed four teams to conduct rescue operations in Barangay Bagong Silangan with many parts submerged in chest-deep flood.
Videos posted by QCDRRMC showed about 10 individuals, including the rescuers, paddling through the flood on a rescue boat.
"Nakataas na sa Red Alert ang La Mesa Dam na malapit nang umabot sa spilling level na 80.15 meters dahil sa malakas na pag-ulan dulot ng bagyong Ulysses (A red alert warning has also been raised in La Mesa, which nears reaching its spilling level of 80.15 meters due to heavy rains)," the local government added.
The local government said it will also order the evacuation of residents living near the Tullahan River as it is expected overflow.
"Pinalilibutan ng naturang ilog ang (The river is surrounded by) barangays San Bartolome, Fairview, Forest Hills Subdivision, Quirino Highway, Sta. Quiteria sa Quezon City; and Barangay Ligon, North Expressway, and La Huerta Subdivision in Valenzuela and Malabon," the city government said.
