'The Grinch' musical is coming to NBC


A two-hour musical based on the fictional character "The Grinch"  will air on NBC on Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. 


Matthew Morrison will play the role of "The Grinch" in the musical that will be broadcast from the Troubadour Theatre in London. Joining the cast are Denis O’Hare, Booboo Stewart, and newcomer Amelia Minto in supporting roles.

"The Grinch" musical is based on the book "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" by Dr. Seuss.

"In what has been an extremely challenging year for us all, it is an honor to bring some holiday cheer into viewers’ homes this December,” Morrison said in a statement. “My wish is to bring some Who-ville magic to this holiday season and, while the pandemic presents some challenges in bringing a stage production to life, we are excited to present a unique version of this seasonal favorite in a new creative and imaginative way.”

Matthew, 42, rose to stardom for his role as Ryan Murphy in the hit series "Glee." He also appeared in other big budget theater productions such "Footloose" and "Hairspray," among others
