Major landslide blocks Pancian, Pagudpud road


LAOAG CITY (PNA) – The Manila North Road in Barangay Pancian, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte has been closed due to a major landslide that has also stranded several motorists in the area.

In a road advisory issued on Wednesday morning, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 1 (Ilocos region) said road-clearing operations were ongoing.

Jocelyn Oamar, spokesperson of DPWH-1 confirmed this as maintenance engineers and point persons were on site to monitor the situation.

Since last week, the northern portion of Ilocos Norte has been experiencing scattered rainfall brought about by the series of tropical depressions in this part of Luzon.

The public has been advised to take extra precautions when on the road.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said severe tropical storm Ulysses is expected to trigger torrential rains in parts of Luzon as it nears land.

Residents living near rivers and low-lying and mountainous areas have been advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslide.
