Eastern Samar posts record-high, single-day number of COVID-19 cases
TACLOBAN CITY - Eastern Samar province logged its single highest number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, November 10, according to the Department of Health in Region 8 (DOH-8).
Out of the 129 new cases in the region, DOH-8 said 75 came from Eastern Samar, most of whom were close contacts of COVID-19 cases.
The municipality of Salcedo had the most number of new cases with 23, while Giporlos had 12, followed by General Mac Arthur and Hernani, which had seven each.
Maslog and Mercedes town had three new cases each, Oras and Quinapondan had two each, and Borongan had one.
The province has been placed under general community quarantine (GCQ) until November 20.
All movement in the province has been limited to accessing essential goods and services, and for work in permitted industries.
Persons below 15 years old and over 65 years old, and other vulnerable groups have been required to remain in their residences at all times, except when indispensable under the circumstances for obtaining essential goods and services.
All forms of mass gatherings have also prohibited except for the provision of critical government services and humanitarian activities which adhere to prescribed minimum health standards.
Religious gatherings shall be allowed up to 30 percent of the seating or venue capacity and approved by the local government.
Eastern Samar was the last province in the region to have been COVID-free for months due to its strict border checkpoint implementation.
