Cebu city gov’t donates P1 million, sends 30-man support team to Catanduanes

CEBU CITY—The Cebu City government is donating cash assistance worth P5 million to Catanduanes, which was badly hit by typhoon Rolly.

City Mayor Edgardo Labella said the city was also sending a 30-man team that will help in the clearing operations in Catanduanes.

“We are prioritizing Catanduanes because they were the ones that was worst-hit by the typhoon,” said Labella.

The 30-man team left Monday aboard a Philippine Navy boat. The team, which is headed by City Councilor Dave Tumulak, will arrive in Catanduanes on Wednesday.

“It will be hard for Catanduanes to clear all the debris that’s why we are sending a team consisting of engineers, electricians, nurses and doctors,” said Labella.

Aside from the financial assistance and sending the 30-man team, the city also donated two truckloads of food and water.

“I talked to the executive assistant of Governor Joseph Cua and I was told that they really need food and water now. They were appreciative of our efforts and I thank our city council for appropriating P5 million for our relief efforts in Catanduanes,” said Labella.

The city was able to collect relief goods through the drop-in centers that were put at the Fuente Osmeña Rotunda and City Hall.
