The Azkals Development Team ended its maiden campaign in the Philippines Football League on a high note Monday morning with a 2-0 victory over Stallion-Laguna at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
ADT once again launched its assault in the second half behind goals from Carlo Dorin and Jarvey Gayoso to end the guest team’s campaign in the shortened season backed by Qatar Airways assured of at least a third place finish.
Coach Scott Cooper’s side produced nine points after five matches, winning the last three after similar 1-0 defeats to champion United City FC and Kaya-Iloilo.
The club which is using the season to hone young players for possible national team stints in the future could even finish second if Kaya loses to United City in their match being played at presstime.
ADT broke the ice when Dorin bundled in Yrick Gallantes’ attempt that was deflected by Stallion goalkeeper Nelson Gasic in the 52nd minute.
Gallantes also won a penalty at the hour mark when he was brought down by Stallion captain Balot Doctora inside the box.
Gayoso calmly converted a low shot past Gasic to double ADT’s lead.
Stallion suffered its third defeat in four matches to remain at one point going into the season’s final match on Thursday opposite Mendiola FC 1991.
Mendiola was facing Maharlika-Manila at presstime.
