PNP mulls placing IMEG under Internal Affairs to boost drive vs corruption
The Philippine National Police is eyeing a major restructuring of units engaged in internal cleansing and punishing errant cops in order to comply with President Duterte’s last-ditch effort to fulfill his campaign promise of ending corruption in the country.

PNP chief Police Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan said the plan is to place the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group under the Internal Affairs Service to intensify the anti-corruption drive in the police organization.
IMEG, which used to be the Counter-Intelligence Task Force, is the operating unit of the PNP against erring cops. The IAS, on the other hand, investigates and recommends punishments to errant cops to the chief PNP and top-level police commanders.
“The idea is to make IMEG the operating arm of IAS. But we are still studying it,” said Cascolan.
Last week, Cascolan said they will obey the order of Duterte to intensify the anti-corruption drive.
Based on PNP data, 16,216 errant PNP personnel were penalized from July 2016 to October 2020 – 4,681 personnel were dismissed from the service, 870 demoted, and 851 suspended.
A total of 518 PNP personnel, including 14 police commissioned officers who tested positive for using illegal drugs, are being subjected for validation and processing for separation from the service.
