2 injured in Manila road mishap


Two men were injured after being hit by a car that sped backwards along T.M. Kalaw Street in Ermita, Manila Wednesday morning.

Police identified the victims as Romel Cayudo, 27 and Mark Anthony Caabas, 29, resident of Navotas City; both are seafarers.

Christopher Canuto, of legal age, resident of Quezon City, was identified by police as the driver of the brown Toyota Innova car involved in the accident.

Investigation showed that the two victims were walking along the sidewalk on T.M. Kalaw Street at around 10:30 a.m.

When they reached the entrance/exit driveway of Manila Doctors Hospital, they were hit by the Toyota Innova that was speeding backwards.

The vehicle continued to back up until it hit the center island of the said street, causing damage. Canuto reported losing control of his vehicle.

Cayudo and Caabas, who sustained injuries, were brought to the hospital for medical treatment.

The driver of the vehicle is now under police custody and may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property.
