CAGAYAN – At least 16 low-lying municipalities in Cagayan province will be likely affected by floods that could be spawned by approaching tropical storm Siony.
This was the warning raised by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), which came out with Flood Bulletin No. 4, saying that people living near low-lying areas, particularly those adjacent to and along the rivers should be alert against possible landslides and flash floods.
Concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices were also advised to take appropriate action.
Among those likely to be affected by flooding are Penablaca, Tuguegarao City, Solana, Enrile, Iguig, Amulung, Alcala, Baggao, Lassam, Gataran, Lallo, Calamanuigan, Aparri. Tuao, Piat and Sto Nino.
Meanwhile, several bridges in Isabela were reported impassable due to swollen rivers as of November 3.
These include the Gucab and Annafunan bridge in Echague; Baculud and Cabisera 8 in the City of Ilagan; Cansan, Cabagan - Bagutari, Sto. Tomas overflow bridge; Cabagan - Santa Maria overflow bridge; Alicaocao in Cauayan City; and Turod-Banquero in Reina Mercedes.
Both Cagayan and Isabela must be ready with tropical storm Siony expected to make landfall in Cagayan Valley later this week, according to the state weather bureau.
