Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said it would be up to the President to decide when he would appoint the new police chief.
PNP Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan is set to reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on November 10. Cascolan was appointed by the President to the top police post last September.
A member of Philippine Military Academy class of 1986, Cascolan previously served as PNP deputy chief for administration.
"I’m sure he has a shortlist already but the final choice is up to the President when he will issue it," Roque said during a televised press briefing.
