ILOILO CITY—While portions of Panay Island were initially placed under storm warnings, typhoon “Rolly” did not have much effect on the island.
“There’s no flooding. There’s no landslide. No significant impact on Panay Island,” said Aleth Nogra, chief of the disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) division of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-6) for Western Visayas region.
The 5 p.m. bulletin of the weather bureau PAGASA lifted storm signals for Aklan, Antique, and Capiz provinces as well as northern Iloilo province.
“While there was no impact, it was very good that all DRRM councils were prepared,” Nogra told Manila Bulletin on Sunday, November 1.
Officials in the area were initially bracing for Rolly’s impact including landslides in some parts of Aklan and Antique provinces as well as flooding in Capiz and Iloilo provinces.
Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. held an emergency meeting Sunday morning to make sure officials in 42 towns and the component city of Passi were on standby in case of serious emergencies.
