Philippine Football League opens on Oct. 24

The Philippines Football League plans to start its season under a bubble setup on Oct. 24 at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite, the league announced Friday.

Guest clubs Azkals Development Team and Mendiola FC 1991 clash in the first match at 4:30 p.m. followed by Stallion-Laguna and Kaya-Iloilo at 8:30 p.m.

Newcomers United City and Maharlika-Manila clash at 5 p.m. on the following day, provided the opening dates are approved by the Inter-Agency Task Force.

The PFL made the announcement Friday after commissioner Coco Torre met with representatives from all six clubs the other night to discuss the upcoming season.

But the target date still needs the approval of the IATF, which gave the green light for the PBA and the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 to proceed with their seasons using a bubble concept.

Under a bubble, all clubs and league officials and staff will stay at the Seda Hotel inside Nuvali in Sta. Rosa, Laguna during the course of the Qatar Airways-backed PFL season.

The season will have a single-round competition, with the top four teams advancing to the playoffs which the league calls as as a “Finals Series.”
