Julia Barretto recalls getting fined for drinking sparkling wine
Young actress Julia Barretto would always remember film and television director Johnny Manahan, popularly known in the industry as Mr. M, as a disciplinarian who will not tolerate celebrities who violate his guidelines.
At the Star Magic's "The Man Behind The Magic - A Golden Anniversary Tribute for Mr. M" that streamed a few days ago online, Julia recalled how she was fined P10,000 by Mr. M for drinking sparkling wine.
“Andami kong masi-share na moments, but siguro ang pinakatumatak talaga sa akin is, may isang Star Magic Ball… And siyempre, ang pwede lang uminom ay eighteen (years old) and above. Pero nu'ng mga panahong iyon, seventeen pa lang ako at uminom ako ng champagne," she remembered.
Then she was fined for underage drinking during the next weekend episode of "ASAP."
“Iyan ang pinaka-memorable moment ko with Mr. M, nu'ng siningil niya ako ng P10,000 as fine (for drinking) at seventeen,” she said.
Julia is also thankful to Mr. M. for taking her in. She credited Mr. M for instilling good values on her.
"And I’m so, so, so, so thankful to have been part of Star Magic and to have had you as a father," she said.
The daughter of celebrity couple Marjorie Barretto and Dennis Padilla said Mr. M is a huge part of her success in show business.
“I think I will never be able to thank you enough just for absolutely everything. For making my dreams come true, for believing in me, and just looking after all of us, and treating us like your own," she said. “I can’t imagine Star Magic without you as our dad. So, thank you, thank you so much for everything and I will never forget everything.”
Julia joined Star Magic Batch 2013 along with Liza Soberano, Janella Salvador, Jerome Ponce, Jane Oineza, Alex Diaz, and Khalil Ramos.
Due to ABS-CBN shutdown, Julia decided to leave Star Magic and joined Viva Artists Agency.
