Leni upset over PH becoming 20th in the world with most COVID cases

Vice President Leni Robredo said Sunday that she is not happy that the Philippines is now among the 20 countries with the most number of coronavirus cases worldwide.

Robredo said she was upset the country was ranked 20th when it can beat the COVID-19 pandemic like its neighboring countries.

The list of the 20 countries with the most number of COVID-19 cases can be seen in the Johns Hopkins University Coronavirus Resource Center.

Robredo said it couldn’t get any worse that the Philippines already surpassed Pakistan and it’s now close to Italy in the global tally.

”Nauna sila maging masama sa atin pero naayos na nila pero tayo andun pa din tayo sa pataas,” she said, referring to Pakistan.

The Philippines had recorded 314,079 cases and overtook Pakistan, which fell to No. 21 with 312,806 while Italy was 19th spot 314,861 cases.

The Department of Health on Saturday reported 2,674 new infections that further pushed the country’s caseload to 319,330 with 58,606 active cases.

Robredo said the government can set its target goal of lowering coronavirus cases based on data.

“Parang kulang tayo sa paggamit ng datos para tingnan. Ang sama sa loob ko noong nag-top 20 tayo,” Robredo said.

“Sana iyong mga datos na ito tinitingnan para nakakagawa tayo ng maayos na targets,” she added.

Despite ranking 20th in the world, the DoH asserted that looking beyond the cumulative figure provided by Johns Hopkins University, the country is doing well in terms of active cases and number of recoveries.

Robredo disputed this claim, saying that based on the data, the Philippine ranked 16th in the world with active COVID-19 cases.
