SoKor fugitive nabbed in Isabela

Immigration and police operatives have recaptured a South Korean fugitive in San Mateo, Isabela, 10 months after he escaped from jail guards in Floridablanca, Pampanga.

The 45-year old Song Yangrae is wanted by authorities in Seoul, South Korea for defrauding four of his compatriots of more than $360,000.

Likewise, the alien was found working in the country without proper permits.

He was first arrested in January 2016 but escaped detention last January and went into hiding,

According to reports, Song’s last known address was Lubao, Pampanga but he transferred to San Mateo, Isabela with his girlfriend of nine months in an attempt to evade arrest.

Song managed to escape when he asked permission from his guards to go to a restroom of the restaurant where they dined in Floridablanca.

Song was transported Thursday to the BI main office in Intramuros Manila, awaiting results of the COVID-19 swab test.

He is set to be deported shortly and included in BI’s blacklist to stop him from returning.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente lauded the efforts of BI intelligence agents in the successful recapture of Song.

“Let this serve as a warning to illegal aliens and foreign fugitives. The Philippines is not a sanctuary for wanted criminals," said Morente.
