PH Ambassador to Turkey: No Filipino fatalities in powerful quake in Turkey, Greece


No Filipino fatalities were reported in the strong earthquake that jolted Turkey and Greece, the Philippine Ambassador to Turkey said Saturday, Oct. 31.

Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Raul Hernandez announced over Twitter that no Filipino fatality is recorded so far.

“We are now in Izmir for a consular mission where a powerful earthquake struck the region,” Hernandez said.

“Initial reports say that 20 buildings have collapsed. No deaths have been reported yet,” he added.

According to reports, a 7.0-magnitude deadly quake hit the Aegean Sea Friday, Oct. 30, affecting Turkey and Greece. More than 20 deaths have been recorded while nearly 800 individuals are injured.

“The team is in touch with Consul General Ender Yorgancilar and our Filcom leaders who have informed us that so far there are no Filipino casualties,” the Philippine Ambassador said.

“Let’s pray for the safety and welfare of our kababayans here and people of Izmir during this challenging times,” he also urged.
