Region 2 farmers sell using e-wallet

Over 5,000 farmers and agri-enterpreneurs in the Cagayan Valley (Region 2) can now sell their products digitally to consumers in Metro Manila.

Farm-to-table digital delivery platform Mayani.ph, electronic wallet provider GrabPay and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 2 Office today (October 29, 2020) signed a virtual Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to make this happen.

Under the MOA, which takes effect next month, November 5, consumers can do cashless purchases of fresh produce, vegetables and fruits, processed food herbal products, local wines, wood furniture, crafts, jewelry and fashion accessories from Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

The tripartite collaboration seeks to hasten economic recovery in Region 2 by enabling farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to sell their produce at above-market prices to Metro Manila.

On its end, the DTI serves as a conduit between the partners and the farm cooperatives in the region.

Mayani, the cointry's fastest-growing farm-to-table platform already services over 1,200 farmers, more than 6,000 B2C customers, and a B2B portfolio that includes Shell, Healthy Options, UCC Group, Amici, and Cara Mia.

Electronic wallet provider GrabPay has a partnership with Mastercard, with a card accepted by millions of online merchants worldwide.
