PNP to conduct lifestyle check on all cops to weed out corruption

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will be conducting a lifestyle check among its own personnel to find out who among the members of the police force are possibly involved in corruption and other forms of illegal activities.

The lifestyle check, according to PNP chief Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, is in compliance with the order of President Duterte to conduct an all-out campaign against corruption in the remaining months of his term.

This, after Duterte admitted that the corruption in the government has not changed a bit—which prompted him to task the Department of Justice to conduct an all-out probe on corrupt employees and officials of the government.

Interestingly, it was Duterte’s promise to immediately end corruption within the first few months of his term which became one of the reasons why he won the 2016 presidential elections. Experts had said that such a promise, and also a promise to end illegal drugs in the country in three to six months, was impossible.

Cascolan said corrupt policemen should be immediately booted out of the police organization.

“That is the order of President Duterte, we will follow that by the book and we will strictly implement it to those people who are actually violating and coming up with corruption practices,” said Cascolan.

The same promise, however, was declared by a number of PNP chiefs in the past.

Cascolan said the anti-corruption drive in the PNP will be conducted by the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) together with the Internal Affairs Service.
