Petra-Roxas ZN stuns Sarangani to enter Chooks 3x3 quarterfinals

Petra Cement-Roxas ZN scored a 21-17 upset of Sarangani to reach the quarterfinals of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President’s Cup quarterfinals Friday at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Janus Lozada broke a 17-all tie before Nikkie Monteclaro fired a two-pointer to give Roxas its first-ever victory in the “Calambubble’ after losing all eight games in the previous four legs.

The team of Lozada, Monteclaro, Roider Cabrera and Gian Abrigo, who led the way with six points, will face No. 3-ranked Nueva Ecija in a knockout affair later in the day.

Also advancing is Porac-Big Boss Cement which downed Zamboanga Peninsula 21-14, behind 13 points from Dylan Ababou.

But Ababou and the Green Gorillas were facing a tough obstacle as of posting time against top-ranked Zamboanga City-Family’s Brand Sardines in the quarters.

Bobby Balucanag scored eight points as Palayan City rolled past Pagadian City 21-17 while Anton Asistio and Alfred Batino powered Bacolod-Master Sardines to a 21-10 romp of Bicol Paxful 3x3 Pro.

Palayan was facing Pasig-Sta. Lucia and Bacolod taking on Butuan City-Uling Roasters in the other quarterfinal matches as of posting time.
