Red Cross provides assistance to San Juan, Pasig families

Families from San Juan and Pasig recently received food and cash assistance courtesy of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC).

“Philippine Red Cross opens itself again to help and lead recovery efforts city per city, province per province. We have always been guided by the Red Cross principles, and we always emphasize on our work the great task to help the vulnerable—to encourage them we have to restart and re-evaluate our lives after these challenges,” PRC Chairman and CEO Sen. Richard Gordon said.

PRC said extending support is part of their continuous efforts to alleviate the suffering of communities affected by the pandemic.    

In Pasig City, a total of P770,000 will be allotted to 220 families while P4.55 million will go to 1,300 families in San Juan City.

Red Cross’ Secretary General Elizabeth Zavalla took note of how the organization approaches the affected families, saying they identify and engage receipients in the community where the cash grant given can equate into livelihoods and necessary investments. 

“Aside from being efficient, this systematic approach teaches us to understand the situation they were in, their current state, and on what we can further give for them to work a better version of themselves," she said.

PRC, in partnership with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), has conducted previous distributions in Bulacan, Manila, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Antipolo, Cainta, Cebu and Olongapo.
