ILOILO CITY—The local government here will share its best practices at a national colloquium on disaster risk reduction on Friday, October 30.

Mayor Jerry Treñas is set to discuss key strategies at the online National Resilience Council (NRC) 2020 Colloquium that will have the participation of a representative from the United Nations (UN).
Iloilo will join Bataan, Cagayan de Oro, Iriga, Muntinlupa, Naga, Ormoc, and Zamboanga in highlighting initiatives for disaster risk reduction (DRR).
Late last year, Treñas signed a memorandum of cooperation (MOC) among the Iloilo City government, National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) of Taiwan, Manila Observatory, and NRC to boost disaster preparedness in the city.
The project has the technical assistance of Taiwan’s NCDR that installed 20 rain gauges and earthquake alarm systems.
The city government also inked a partnership with the private sector including SM City Iloilo, Megaworld Corp.’s Iloilo Business Park, and Alliance Global Group Inc.
The city government also has a partnership with the academe including the Central Philippine University (CPU), John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU-Arevalo), University of the Philippines Visayas (UP Visayas), and West Visayas State University (WVSU).
