Caraga PNP files 1,093 cases vs communist terrorists

CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City- The regional command of Caraga Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) on Thursday reported that it has filed 1,093 cases for the period January 1, 2020 to October 25, 2020, against members of Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) behind the atrocities committed in the region.

These CTG-initiated atrocities include abduction, ambush, attack or raid, bombing or explosion with the use of Improvised Explosive Device (IED), burning, encounter, harassment, kidnapping, robbery, and shooting victimizing members of PNP, AFP, government employees, Indigenous People, former rebels, minors, and civilians.

PRO 13 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat, Jr. told The Manila Bulletin on Thursday that records from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) 13 revealed that for the period, PNP Caraga recorded a total of 1,290 incidents perpetrated by the CTG.

Of the figure, 1,093 or 84.73% were successfully filed, 658 of which were referred to the Prosecutor’s Office and 435 were filed in court, while only 197 cases remain under investigation.

“This notable accomplishment is a clear proof of PNP Caraga’s strong commitment to ensure public safety and internal security against the terroristic acts of the CTG,” Caramat said.

“Rest assured that PNP Caraga is one with the government’s efforts to end local communist armed conflict which is the main objective of Executive Order Number 70 Institutionalizing the Whole-of-Nation Approach in Attaining Inclusive and sustainable peace, creating a National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), and directing the adoption of a national peace framework, of President Rodrigo R.Duterte’s administration,” the region’s top cop said.

The PNP’s Committee on Legal Action (CLA) is tasked to ensure the advancement of legal action efforts anchored on the active participation of the QUAD Staff (Intelligence, Operation, Police Community Relations (PCR) and investigation) in order to enforce a holistic criminal case build-up, investigation and prosecution of atrocities committed by the various threats to national security, and to enhance coordination with other agencies, he added.
