3 dams close to spilling level release water

Three dams in Luzon released water from their reservoirs today as they were close to spilling level.

Citing the data from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Section of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), two gates each were opened in Ambuklao and Binga Dams in Benguet this morning.

Ambuklao Dam's gates had a 0.8-meter opening as its current water level reached 751.87 meters around 8 a.m., just 0.13 meters short of it is 752-meter normal high water level. Its water level last Wednesday morning was 751.60 meters.

The water outflow from Ambuklao Dam goes down to Binga Dam.

Binga Dam's gates were opened at one meter each to control the flow of water downstream.

Its water level slightly increased Thursday morning to 574.79 meters from 574.45 meters last Wednesday and is close to its normal high water level of 575 meters.

PAGASA advised residents of Barangays Dalupirip and Tinongdan in Itogon, Benguet, as well as the concerned local disaster risk reduction and management office, to take necessary precautionary measures.

Magat Dam in Isabela also continues to release water with one of its gates open at two meters.

Its water level was 190.95 meters Thursday morning, just 2.05 meters away from its 193 meter normal high water level. Its current water level was slightly up from last Wednesday's 190.49 meters.

PAGASA recommended residents living near river channels and low-lying communities in Ramon, San Mateo, Aurora, Cabatuan, Luna, Reina Mercedes, Burgos, Naguilian, and Gamu to take appropriate action in case flooding occurs.
