Typhoon Quinta leaves 5 dead, 6 missing in Bicol


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Typhoon Quinta left five people dead, six others missing and 15 individuals injured, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol reported Tuesday night.

OCD-Bicol spokesperson Gremil Naz said that, of the 12 fishermen reported missing in Catanduanes province, three have been found, but they were already dead.

They were identified as Romeo Torillos, Sr., Romeo Torillos, Jr., and a 15-year old Luisito. They were recovered on the shores of Bato, Catanduanes.

In Albay province, OCD Bicol also recorded a casualty in Bacacay town, a three-year-old boy, who drowned at the height of the typhoon.

A certain Ruivic Quinto, a resident of Daet town, in Camarines Norte, was also listed as one of the casualties of the typhoon. Based from the report, Quinto was electrocuted.

Naz said that, as of 7 p.m., Tuesday, there were still 5 fishermen missing in Catanduanes, and one fisherman in Calabanga town, Camarines Sur.

On the reported injuries, six were reported in Albay, five in Sorsogon, three in Camarines Norte, and one in Catanduanes.

Meanwhile, Bicol region recorded a total of P688,735,558.77 in damage to agriculture, infrastructure, fisheries and electrical facilities.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) District Office in Catanduanes also reported P4,499,000 damage in on national roads, while the Masbate DPWH First District Office reported P4 million worth of damage also on national roads due to flooding.
