President Duterte expects that more Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) officials will face charges for alleged anomalies, according to a Palace official.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the President is confident about the ongoing reforms in PhilHealth in a bid to rid the state corporation of corruption.

Roque made the pronouncement after the President ruled out the abolition of PhilHealth since it was supposedly difficult to establish a new agency.

"Let’s just say inaantay pa po niya iyong mga kasong isasampa pa sa iba pang mga personnel at officials ng PhilHealth (Let's just say he is waiting for the cases that will be filed against other personnel and officials of PhilHealth)," he said during a televised press briefing when asked if Duterte's decision against the PhilHealth abolition meant he was

Roque noted that the President has welcomed the changes in PhilHealth amid the reorganization initiated by its president Dante Gierran.

"Pero kumpiyansa po siya na dahil marami ngang nag-resign na at maraming na-suspend na eh mayroon nang malaking pagbabago diyan sa PhilHealth. Malaki na po ang nagawa natin sa paglinis ng PhilHealth, ipagpapatuloy na lang po iyan (But he is confident because many have resigned and many have been suspended, there is a huge change in PhilHealth. We have made huge strides in cleaning up PhilHealth, That will be continued)," he said.

The President, in a televised address Tuesday, announced he was no longer inclined to dismantle PhilHealth. He claimed the state corporation is left with a skeleton force after many have either been suspended or resigned amid the corruption probe.

Duterte however said PhilHealth officials who resigned cannot escape liability if implicated in the corruption allegations. The government would press ahead with the investigation and prosecute corrupt public servants, he vowed.

An inter-agency task force led by the Department of Justice earlier completed an initial investigation into PHilHealth and found that certain officials allegedly committed negligence in the discharge of their duties, particularly on the disbursement of Interim Reimbursement Mechanism given to hospitals as well as the procurement of information technology equipment. Complaints have been filed against certain PhilHealth officials before the Office of the Ombudsman.

The DOJ earlier said the investigation on the alleged anomalous hounding PhilHealth would continue despite the initial recombination given to the President.
