20 Filipinos abroad added to DFA tally of COVID-19 cases

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported 20 new confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) cases and six new recoveries among Filipinos abroad.

In its latest tally of COVID-19 cases involving overseas Filipinos, the DFA also recorded one new fatality due to the pandemic.

All the reports of new cases, recoveries and lone fatality were from Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East, and Africa.

Since the outbreak began in February this year, the total number of overseas Filipinos infected with COVID-19 is listed at 11,224. Of these, 3,153 are undergoing treatment, 7,254 have recovered, and 817 succumbed to the disease. 

The total number of countries and regions with confirmed cases among Filipinos remains at 81.

Meanwhile, Vietnam has donated a US$50,000 worth of COVID-19 RT-PCR test kits with accompanying extraction kits to the Philippine government. 

In a ceremonial turnover on Wednesday, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. received the donation from the Vietnamese Ambassador to Manila Hoang Huy Chung at the DFA office in Pasay City.

The donation, which comes ahead of the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Philippines-Vietnam Strategic Partnership on November 17,  has since been delivered to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.
