SMC extends RFID deadline to Nov. 30

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has given motorists without Autosweep Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) a whole month's grace period.

“From Nov. 2 to 30, vehicles without RFID will still be allowed to enter all SMC-operated expressways - the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR), South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), the Skyway System, NAIA Expressway (NAIAX) and the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX)," according to the company statement.

"In consideration of so many motorists who have not been able to secure an Autosweep RFID account because of the volume of applications we have today, we decided to extend the deadline to November 30,” SMC explained.

The demand surge for the RFID stickers resulted in long queues at installation stations  in the past two weeks.

Hopefully, the deadline extension will give more time for motorists to get their RFID stickers, according to SMC.

However, November 30 will be the "absolute deadline", the tollway operator underscored.

After that, vehicles without RFID stickers will not be allowed to enter any SMC operated tollways.

Motorists who do not conform to the government rule will  be apprehended and issued a citation ticket.

All of SMC-operated tollways are ready to implement 100 per cent cashless toll collection this November 2, to comply with the government's deadline.

But many motorists are still not ready for it.

To make it easier for motorists to get the free RFID stickers, SMC has set up installation and reloading lanes at toll plaza entry points, in addition to the installation and reloading stations already set up in strategic locations in Metro Manila and Luzon.
