Chief of police dies after being struck by a fighting cock’s ‘tari’ in N. Samar


TACLOBAN CITY – The chief of police of San Jose, Northern Samar died after he was struck by a fighting cock’s gaff, or “tari”, in a raid at an illegal-cockfighting operation on Monday, October 26.

P/Lt. Christian Bolik, chief of the San Jose Municipal Station, led his men in a raid on an illegal cockfighting actitivity in Barangay Madugang at around 1:20 p.m.

At least six violators were caught in the act of engaging in a “tupada”, while some men scampered in different directions. 

It was while Bolok was handling a confiscated fighting cock that he was struck by the gaff in the left thigh, hitting his femoral artery.

He was rushed to the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital where he was declared dead on-arrival by the attending physician.

At least three suspects were arrested during the operation, while three more remain at large. 

The operating team also seized seven fighting cocks, 2 sets of gaff, and bet money amounting to P550 from the violators. All of them were brought to San Jose MPS for the filing of charges.

Northern Samar Provincial Office (NSPO) Director P/Col. Arnel Apud expressed grief over the untimely death of Bolok.

“I have a heavy heart as we have lost a brother who sacrificed his own life in the name of service,” Apud said.
