Mary Pauline Salon, known as “The Styling Team of Top-Rated Shows,” has remained steadfast amid the challenges of the new normal. Thanks to the resiliency of its namesake lady owner and her staff.
The salon chain's owner Mary Pauline Danga-Obias shared: “I am a type of person who would rise up to any challenge. So I instructed my team to get the business moving by offering home services to our clients and strengthening our online marketing.”
MPS has around 200 branches nationwide on the strength of endorsements by prominent personalities and regular exposure on national TV. Celebrities associated with MPS include Piolo Pascual, Robin Padilla, Angel Locsin, and several others.
Instead of clients going to the salon, MPS staff go to their homes to service them. In this set-up, pandemic protocol is carefully placed, with staff being tested for COVID-19 every two weeks and getting flu/pneumonia vaccines. For walk-in customers, social distancing is practiced at MPS outlets installed with foot baths, alcohol dispensers, face masks, face shields, air purifiers, and UV sanitation boxes. The staff, apart from health protection provision, continuously receive their salaries and allowances on time as well.

"Our aim is for them to feel beautiful inside and out despite this pandemic," said Obias. "COVID-19 might have wreaked havoc on our economy but I believe in the resilience of the Filipino."
MPS was established in 2004. In 2011, MPS ventured into franchising through Mary Pauline Salon Franchising Corp. Outlets in Surigao Del Sur and Surigao Del Norte will be opening very soon as negotiations to build a Greenbelt branch got underway.
The success paved the way for last year's launch of Mary Pauline Skin that offered a complete set of beauty regimens from facial soap, toner, and day and night cream. MPS business core include Larry Asistin who manages Sir George Salon, COO Cathy Roquino, Mary Pauline Salon Group Franchisees president Henry Narioka Lim, Atty. Maggie Abraham Garduque, and bookkeeper Chet Urmita.
The salon chain earned the trust of sought-after TV personalities and produced young celebrity make-up artists like Jay Herrera and Joan Vivero who have catered to the affluent and influential. It is constantly honing young stylists from the provinces to be deployed in franchise outlets. This is done via the Salon Pangkabuhayan livelihood training program in partnership with the mayor's office and PESO (Public Employment Support Office) of localities.
Obias said: “I would like to encourage more Filipinos, especially our youth, to try to consider getting into the trade and training for it. I am envisioning a more professional approach in the selection and training of personnel and better opportunities for both the salon owners and their staff.”
