K-pop boy groups BTS, EXO and NCT 127 bagged nominations at the 2020 American Music Awards (AMAs), which will be held live at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on ABC on Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. EST (Nov. 23, 8 a.m. in the Philippines).
The three K-pop groups are vying for the Favorite Social Artist award along with Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.
This is BTS’ third consecutive year to be nominated for the category and won in 2018 (the first year the Favorite Social Artist was added to the AMAs), and in 2019 in addition to Tour of the Year and Favorite Duo or Group-Pop/Rock. It’s the second year that EXO received a nomination for the award and a first for NCT 127.
BTS and the Jonas Brothers are facing off again for the Favorite Duo or Group-Pop/Rock award along with Maroon 5. BTS, Jonas Brothers and Maroon 5 vied for Top Duo/Group at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) last Oct. 14 and Jonas Brothers emerged as the winner, much to the surprise of BTS ARMYs. In the 2019 AMAs, BTS edged out the Jonas Brothers to win the award.
All the winners of the American Music Awards are voted by fans and the “nominees are based on key fan interactions – as reflected on the Billboard charts – including streaming, album and digital song sales, radio airplay and social activity. These measurements are tracked by Billboard and its data partners MRC Data and Next Big Sound, and reflect the time period of Sept. 27, 2019, through Sept. 24, 2020.”
How to vote
Voting period is from Oct. 26 to Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. ET (Nov. 17, 3 a.m. in the Philippines). Fans can vote via Billboard website or on Twitter.
