Cops ordered to conduct regular patrols in cemeteries, memorial parks

The Philippine National Police (PNP) ordered on Sunday all police commanders to conduct regular patrola in cemeteries and columbariums across the country amid the possible influx of people to honor their departed loved ones during the All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

PNP spokesman Col. Ysmael Yu said the police commanders were instructed to ensure that the quarantine rules are observed that include the minimum health safety standard protocol and the allowable number of people inside the cemeteries, memorial parks and columbariums.

"There will be daily patrolling through the efforts of our Â Highway Patrol Group and also we will have standby forces in areas prone to crime and for immediate response," said Yu.

He said police commanders were also tasked to coordinate with the Local Government Units (LGUs) for the utilization of force multipliers, particularly the barangay security officers.

Last month, the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) ordered the closure of all public and private cemeteries and memorial parks from October 29 to November 4.

The move is to prevent the influx of people for the All Saints and All Souls Days.

"The PNP Chief, General Camilo Cascolan, is keen in monitoring the overall situations like any possible untoward incidents might happen, and this will be consolidatedÂ by our PNP Command Center of the Directorate for Operations. Likewise, all unusual incidents especially on terrorism will be immediately reported," said Yu.
