Zamboanga City goes for third title in Chooks 3x3

Zamboanga City-Family’s Brand Sardines expects stiff competition when it goes for another win in the third leg of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 President’s Cup on Sunday inside the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

The team of Joshua Munzon, Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan and Troy Rike begin the quest for another leg triumph against Bacolod City-Master Sardines and Bicol-Paxful 3x3 in Pool B of the tournament sponsored by TM.

Munzon, Pasaol, Santillan and Rike have collected a total winning of P250,000 after ruling the preseason tilt and the first two legs of the President’s Cup.

On Friday, Zamboanga continued its dominance with a 21-11 win over Nueva Ecija in a tense-filled final.

Nueva Ecija and losing first leg finalist Butuan City-Uling Roasters are eager to foil Zamboanga’s bid to remain invisible.

Pasaol is far from content with Zamboanga City’s early success, even stressing the importance of sweeping the two-week tourney.

“Kailangan naming ma-sweep ito, yun yung nasa utak namin. Kailangang ipakita sa lahat na nire-represent namin ang Pilipinas,” said Pasaol, who is part of the national team pool preparing for next year’s FIBA 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

"Ito na yung training ground namin e kumbaga para pagdating sa OQT tsaka Tokyo Olympics, makakalaban tayo,” he added.

The Rice Vanguards will play in Pool B against Zamboanga Peninsula and Pagadian Rocky Sports while Butuan plays Palayan City and Petra Cement Roxas in Pool D.

Composing Pool A are Big Boss Cement-Porac, Pasig-Sta. Lucia and Sarangani.
