Around 400 flushing operations done at Divisoria — Manila LGU official
Around 400 flushing operations have been conducted in Divisoria since Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso assumed office on July 1, 2019, a city government official said.
Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Research and Planning Officer Alain Thomas Matias said they conduct regular flushing operations from Divisoria to Recto Avenue, starting from Dagupan Extension to Asuncion Street at the Tondo side to Asuncion Street toward Ylaya Street at the Binondo side.
"Ang pangkalahatang distansya kung susumahin natin, kung galing kang Divisoria ay maaari nang lumagpas ng Baguio (The total distance if we sum it, if we come from Divisoria, we will be able to pass over Baguio)," he said in a recent statement.
"Patuloy po nating aanlawan, iiskobahin at lilinisin ang Divisoria. Sa maliit naming kaparaanan ay maging simbolo sana ito na malakas, epektibo at episyente ang Pamahalaang Lungsod ng Maynila (We will continue to rinse, scrub, and clean Divisoria. In our own little way, we hope that it becomes a symbol of a strong, effective, and efficient Manila city government)," he added.
Matias also thanked the Manila Department of Public Services (DPS), fire volunteer groups, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) for helping in cleaning the said area.
Divisoria, one of the most well-known commercial centers in the country, is also called the "Dividing Line" because it is under the jurisdiction of three districts.
It is an area where fruits, vegetables, meat, and fish products from different areas in the country are delivered before being sent out to other markets in and out of the city.
To recall, Domagoso banned street vending along Ylaya Street after seeing piles of garbage in the area during a surprise inspection in November 2019.
On August, the city government unveiled 100 new vending stalls, that are made of metal and powered by electricity, along Ylaya Street. Six similar stalls are also set up along Antonio Villegas Street near the Manila City Hall.
The Manila mayor said this was done in a bid to provide a "dignified place" to sell goods to vendors, who only have to pay P40 per day for the new stalls.
